PostSubject: Nicola's stereo upgrade    Fri Mar 04, 2011 8:31 am

I went to the audio shop a few weeks ago to buy some replacement speakers for the front doors, and ended up spending a little more than I anticipated....

I bought the new 6.5" speakers for the front, but also decided to upgrade the amplifiers for the subs from 150W to 400W each. I then decided to amplify the front and rear speakers with a pair of 400W amps too. This meant a full re-wire due to the pre-out cables, and a few slight mods to the boot install's arrangement.

This is the first setup I had...

After I was ran into back in Dec'09, I found that the weight of the subs on top of the setup was too much for the wood and it had all split. I re-arranged the setup so that the subs were mounted on the bottom and the cd changers were in the middle. I also replaced the 10 disc changer with a dvd drive.

This was all removed so that I could facilitate the fitment of the new parts..

Then I started the stripdown procedure of the car itself, removing the rear seats, so that the rear side panels could be removed..

The front seats were also removed so that I could remove the sill trim panel to route the cables..

Cables front to back fitted and front seats back in place. (5 off phono cables - front, rear, subs, cd in, video in / remote switch-on for amps / power cable / speaker cables for front left and right)

Secured cables to head unit..

Time to start on speaker replacement - original upgrades...

Tweeter replaced and wires routed..

Woofer replaced and component crossover fitted in bottom of door..

Door cover back on and still looks standard lol

Boot install time..

Subs placed in and 2 of the new amplifiers fitted at their new angles, then wired in..

Shelf in place, and dvd player mounted..

Cd changers were re-painted whilst they were out, to cover up old scratches, and refitted..

Top shelf fitted, then the other pair of amplifiers and surge capacitor fitted and wired..

Just gotta spend a little time setting up the amplifiers now and all done (for now lol)...
