HE HEARTBEAT MINI & CLASSIC RUN

The Heartbeat Mini & Classic Run has been run every year since 2000. Covering the North York Moors and taking in landmarks made famousa in the TV series and its spinoff - The Royal. Over the years the run has also visited Castle Howard (the setting for Brideshead Revisited), Whitby Abbey (Heartbeat) and Filey Brigg.

Now in it's 11th year, this year's run on Sunday 12th June takes in perennenial favourites such as 'Aidensfield' (Goathland) and 'The Aidensfield Arms', 'Scripps Garage' and the famous village shops. There is a stop over of 90 minutes for participants to refresh, down a pint or eat in the famous pub, visit and take photographs of all the sites in the village. On the way there is a 20 minute photostop at 'The Royal' in Scarborough before descending down on to the seafront for the 'Scarborough Cruise' - usually three or four laps of the promenade before climbing up to the moors and 'Aidensfield' itself.

After leaving 'Aidensfield' the run crosses some of the most beautiful scenery in Britain before descending sharply down at 1 in 4 to Rosedale Abbey where a five minute stop allows the stragglers to catch up. To get out of Rosedale Abbey the run tackles what is alleged to be the steepest road in Brttain - Rosedale Chimney, a winding adventure which peaks at 1 in 2 1/2 for 188 yards, before hitting full throttle to the summit where again a great scenic photo opportunity awaits.

The run then continues along the top of the moors until it reaches The Crown Inn, next to the Ryedale Folk Museum at Hutton Le Hole where the runs ends. Another pint can be downed and the day can be finished off with a meal before we drive off for home.

Start of the run is The Middleton Arms, North Grimston situated on the B1253, 4 miles south of Malton where Lofty & Roz provide a welcoming cuppa and biscuits in the lounge before our departure at around 10.15am.

There is around 90 miles of driving taking around three hours with around three hours of stops on top. The cost is £38 per car (not per person and this includes souvenir tee shirt, plaque, rosette and digital photos of participant cars, subject to being able to send them via email

The run is open to all classic and modern minis, kit cars and classic cars. There is no age limit or designation for any vehicle. This is a fun run. We do encourage participants to get into a '60's mood and even dress for the part if they wish, but there is no compulsion. And the fun does not end there for on Saturday 12th June we combine with both the North York Moors Railway and the Pickering 60's Music Festival.

However before we get to the run - on Saturday 12th June there is.................

LEVISHAM STATION

MINI AND CLASSIC RALLY AND SHOW &

NORTH YORK MOORS RAILWAY '60'S WEEKEND
Thanks to the generosity of the North York Moors Railway, we can hold a rally and show at Levisham Station (first stop north from Pickering) between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 12th June. Entry is free and restricted to all Heartbeat participants with the added bonus that like every other station, Levisham will have a CAMRA tent selling real ale plus a '6o's Shadows tribute group performing all day. The intensive train service will be authentic 1960's featuring both steam and early diesil engines. An added bonus will be the oipportunity to purchase a special two for one travel ticket for the whole line or any part you choose. This is only open to Heartbeat participants. CAMRA ale is also available on all trains whilst all stations will feature '60's tribute groups and classic cars and minis. Goathland feature cars from the Heartbeat series.

PICKERING CLASSIC CAR PARADE
After the Levisham show at 5pm Saturday the Pickering Classic Car Parade takes place. A round trip of Pickering ends in the High St where cars are parked so that owner, pasengers and spectators can enjoy the evening outdoor ;ive '60's music festival. Due to limited space particpation must be by pre entry and allocation are normally completed by end of May. However that should stop anybody watching a fine spectacle of classic cars, lorries and bikes.

PICKERING '60'S MUSIC FESTIVAL
This actually takes place over three days, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but the festival really comes alive on Saturday evening in the High St which this year features the Mindbenders. With great nmusic and cars from the era, plenty of period dress, there cannot be a nicer place to be on a war, summer's evening. Pubs all over the town have their own tribute bands and special events.
